Details

East Friesland Salvia (Salvia nemorosa) is a compact, clump-forming perennial that produces an abundance of purple flower spikes from early summer all the way through autumn. Its neat mounds of aromatic foliage are topped with saturated purple spires that glow beautifully in afternoon sunlight, adding vibrant color and pollinator activity to any garden.

Material: Main body is a live clump-forming Salvia plant with lance-shaped, green aromatic leaves and sturdy flower stems. Auxiliary includes nutrient-rich nursery potting soil and a fibrous root system for stable establishment. Accessories include a planting container and detailed care guide.

Size: Mature height 450-600mm, crown spread approximately 450mm, maintaining a tidy, compact habit.

Color: Flowers: purple; Foliage: green.

Age Group: Adults.

Gender: Unisex.

Additional Features: Hardy to USDA Zones 4-8, thrives in full sun with well-drained soil; drought and heat tolerant, performs well even in poor soil conditions; deadheading spent blooms promotes continuous flowering throughout the season; aromatic leaves naturally deter deer and garden pests without chemicals; excellent for borders, rock gardens, container planting, path edging, or cottage garden designs; also works beautifully as a fresh cut flower with good vase life indoors; tidy clumping habit requires division only every 3-5 years, making it a low-maintenance, long-term investment; pairs beautifully with yellow coneflowers or classic red roses for striking color contrast in mixed plantings.

Care Instructions: Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Water once or twice a week during the first growing season; established plants are drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flower spikes by cutting back to the next set of leaves to encourage a second and third flush of blooms. Cut back the entire plant by half in late summer to promote fresh fall growth. Divide clumps every 3-5 years in spring to maintain vigor. Light fertilizing in early spring is sufficient.
